Kissy Face (😘)
After our honeymoon, I started a new job up in the city. The company, projects, and people were all great; however, I was having trouble adjusting.
First, we live about an hour south of the city, so I need to take the train to and from work. On a good day, this is an hour each way. On a not so good day, it could be closer to three hours total transit time. Yuck!
Second, I’d taken a year off in between industry jobs and lived the life of an academic — which was pretty great. I loved being in the classroom, teaching students who truly wanted to learn, and having a flexible schedule. I had time to go to the gym, explore yoga, read for fun, the list goes on! (side note: I now understand why N will forever be an academic!)
Returning to the software industry after that was . . . interesting. My long commute means I have practically no time in the evenings to do much more than eat, squeeze in a quick workout OR quality time with my husband, and go to bed. I’ll admit, I wasn’t at all happy with things some days . . .
One of those days, out of the blue, N sent me a text. It contained no words, just the kissy face emoji 😘
Seeing that cute little smiling dude with his little kiss instantly cheered me up! No joke! And knowing that my husband, in the middle of his fun, crazy academic day, was thinking about me kept me smiling all the rest of the day (and all the way home!).
